February Coffee Selection – Larry’s Coffee Roasters

Roasters

Larry’s Coffee Roaster’s huge selection of excellent coffees made narrowing it down to just three a difficult task this month. They feature a rotating selection of 15 single-origins and 15 unique blends!

All of Larry’s coffee is shade-grown, organic and fair-trade. Many have great stories behind them, from direct sourcing to great causes. We’ve selected just a few of our favorites.

From their website:

Larry’s Beans is happily committed to blending and roasting innovative, uniquely delicious coffees — and making the world a better place. 100% of our coffee is Fair Trade, Shade Grown, and Organic, all slow-roasted to bring out every note of indigenous flavor.

Single

Included in all of our subscriptions is Larry’s Coffee’s graceful, smooth, and deliciously creamy Bolivia. This coffee was sourced from the Union Pro-Agro coffee co-op.

Description:

A clean, sweet, and flavorful coffee that is the result of meticulous artisanal techniques in all levels of production. Our Bolivian coffee is smooth, creamy, and delicious, with notes of chocolate and roasted almond. The light-to-medium roast allows for the soft citrus acidity to shine, striking the perfect balance with the rich and mellow medium body. The processing plant in El Alto used by our farming partners still sorts out defects by hand: a lengthy process which ensures that withered, immature, and insect-damaged beans never make their way into your cup. The result is a coffee which is luscious from beginning to end, all the way through its caramel-like finish.

Double

We generally lean towards single-origins when we send out our subscriptions. We’re willing to make an exception this time because Larry has always had a passion for making unique and refreshing blends. This one in particular – the Frenchy French – is a blend of Bolivia and Mexico beans that is dark, but never bitter. A real crowd pleaser! This coffee will be included with both our double and triple subscriptions.

Description:

Some places seem to use their French roasts as an opportunity to hide or obscure a lower quality coffee by roasting it so dark they remove all characteristics of origin, leaving only a cup that tastes of carbon and ash. We don’t see the point in that, so our Frenchy French Roast is a carefully selected coffee, usually from South America, that can withstand the high temperatures of the roast profile which takes it to that nice dark level. We take a slow and steady approach to the roast, allowing the beans’ natural sugars to caramelize nicely without burning. The result is BOLD, DARK, and RICH with a bittersweet chocolate undercurrent. Roasty and piquant with a warm, inviting aftertaste.

Triple

Included exclusively in our triple subscriptions, Larry’s Columbia single-origin was grown by the Paez people group. The Paez are the largest indigenous people group in Colombia. Light and big-flavored, with a cinnamon stick aroma.

Description:

While internationally known for its coffee (largely due to the national federation of Colombian coffee producers, Juan Valdez campaign), much of the Colombian beans you’ll find out there are simply decent, inoffensive cups – far from exceptional. This is not the case with our Colombian single origin. As a result of the communication and collaboration that can only result from long-term relationships, our farmer partners are able to deliver a coffee in its own class. A soft but shining acidity, delicious flavors of walnuts and brown sugar, and a silky medium body are the product of our light roast, which stays in the roaster just long enough to develop a rich, toasty aroma. The cocoa-like aftertaste stays with you long after the cup is gone.
