Bongo Java Roasting Co.
Roasters
Bongo Java checks all the boxes to participate in Brothers Coffee’s subscription service. A founding member of Cooperative Coffees, their mission statement is to “strengthen communities by expanding the definition of quality to include concerns about how our stuff is produced, purchased and promoted.”
But while they take coffee seriously, they take themselves much less so. They aren’t afraid to be goofy or a bit odd at times. In fact, one of their biggest claims to fame was their nunbun, a cinnamon roll that look remarkably similar to Mother Teresa. Even more odd than that, the bun was stolen from them on Christmas Day. When asked in an interview “did you ever think it divinly was lifted into the heavens?” Bongo Java owner Bob Bernstein replied simply “well, if it did, then there likely would have been a hole in our roof instead of a front door off its hinges.”
Bongo Java sure takes their coffee seriously.
Bongo Java takes helping coffee farmers seriously. They take quality of coffee seriously. But when it comes to the showmanship that permeates the industry, they’ve learned some things just shouldn’t be a priority. In fact, they discourage any of their employees from working more than 40 hours a week, and Bernstein himself drives his kids to school almost everyday.
Like all members of Cooperative Coffees, Bongo Java is remarkably transparent. Just like Larry’s Coffee, Kickapoo Coffee, and Amavida, anyone can head to their website and get the map below to track down their coffee contracts.
Maybe you can use this map to guess what coffee you’ll be receiving!
We’re excited to be able to work with Bongo Java! Look for more information on individual coffees in your shipment.
