The Roasterie: Air-Roasted Coffee

Roasters

When we’re looking for roasters, we search for those that have found new and unique ways of making the world a better place. When they use a new and unique roasting method to bring out the best flavors in their coffee, it’s a bonus. The Roastarie, our April roaster, has perfected and popularized air-roasting coffee.

From their website:

Our air-roasting process begins with beans suspended and roasted on a bed of hot air called the fluid bed. The fluid bed creates a vortex within the roasting chamber. This vortex roasts each coffee bean at the same rate from all directions. There’s no better way to roast more accurately or consistently.

But delicious coffee is only one of our criteria when selecting new roasters. In addition to paying at least 30% above “fair trade” prices (and 4 times more than what commercial coffee companies pay), The Roasterie invests in communities at source through their St. Drogo foundation in Brazil, Costa Rica, and Columbia. Their foundation focuses on improving education through projects such as building community centers, donating computers, and supporting schools with supplies.

Yes, that’s a plane on top of their shop.

The Roasterie also does a great job at investing in their own community in Kansas City, MO, by supporting local arts, public radio, community events, fundraisers and more.

We’re excited to bring out members the Roasterie’s unique and delicious coffee for the month of April!
